>trouble: sir it is an honor to meet you. it's not every day one can meet a living legend. >lee fields: why, thank you very much. >trouble:could you tell me, if you can remember the first time you played she's a love maker? >lee fields:the first time i played 'she's a love maker' back in about 72, that was the first time it was played in the studio. from that point it's been a major force in my life, because it seems the song never dies. you know, i feel very good to have something that generates another way of surviving through through the changing times of music, cause you know music is constantly changing. and to have something that is able to work it's away, and you know keep it self alive, and you know, songs come and songs go and especially she's a love maker was n't a tremendously, tremendous big big big record but it was a song recognisable enough through the years just to keep it self alive, and i really truly believe that the song probably will be from this point even go higher. >trouble:can you remember the first time you performed it live? >lee fields: yeah, i performed it live with sammy gordon back in 74, that was after the record had been released. and it began to make, what they call noise, when we began to get some recognition in the scene back in the states. about 74. >trouble: how did it compare performing it today, as to performing it back then? >lee fields: today it seemed like, you know, i think of love maker now as an energy source in a ship. cause when you go to love maker, something about it makes me just start to jump. so it's like an energy pack, an energy pack. you know, like any type of thing that requires energy, regardless of whether, you know, whether it's a machine or what, if the energy gets low the machine wants more. or it stops. she's a love maker is like an energy pack. when i reach the point on stage where my energy is running a bit low, i grab she's a love maker and the audience is energised, and then the audience shoot me the energy i need. so give me re energised, and all of a sudden we got our selfs a party happening again! ha ha.and you know, and that's what she's a love maker is about.
>trouble: is this woman in lover maker about anybody in particular? >lee fields: this woman is any woman, that recognises the needs of a man. thats any woman who really recognises the needs of a man, and does what is necessary to make sure these needs are met. and love maker is also a man, love maker is also a man, in my case i be singing it from a male persona, the gender is a female.she's a female, but if a woman sings the song, it's a male. so you know, it's a male, female trying to provide the needs of what each one of them, what each partner needs to be completely made happy in that particular relationship. >trouble: you went down to keb darge's night last sunday, at madame jo jo's. what did you think of it? >lee fields:oh, down at madame jo jo's.great time, i had a great time. >trouble: what did you make of all those people getting down to it, getting down to all these old records? >lee fields: well i had a great time, i mean to have that hospitality that they gave me was just unbelievable. i mean madame jo jo's , the hospitality was just great! i had a wonderful time. at this point philipe from desco records pops his head round the corner. >phillipe(talking to mr fields): i'll see you next week . >lee fields: yeah, i'll see you in the states then. >phillipe: yeah, no problem. >lee fields:and we'll get working on that track. >phillipe(leaving the room):yeah see you next week. >lee fields: see ya later. >trouble: mr fields, what's this track you are working on at the moment? >lee fields:that's a record we are making at the moment, with a group called the speed-o-meters. i say speedometers , yeah speedometers.they are a great group. >trouble:sir may i just say how fine your suits are. could i ask who makes them? >lee fields: well they are made out of a tailor i have in plainville, new jersey that does my wardrobe. in fact i have had a lot of complements about them, so i am going to tell him about that, cause i don't deserve any recognition for that. >trouble: do you have any final words you would like to say to all your fans out there? >lee fields: i would like to say, keep on being lee fields fans. cause lee field fans are not really fans. lee fields fans are people who just enjoy good music. so they are not really fans, they are just part of the music itself. because people become part of the music, the music gets into the people, they become the music, and the music becomes the people. you know, because what we are dealing with, when you are dealing with sounds what you can't really see or touch you can't measure, apart from beats and stuff like that, but you can't really put it into somthing you can touch, just feel. and you know, it's like a family, it's like a family just one big family, and we so happy, yes we are!
